Thuyloi University Asserts Position at Vietnam – China Forum on Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation

At the invitation of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and his spouse, General Secretary and President To Lam, together with his spouse and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, arrived in Beijing on the morning of April 14, beginning a state visit to China from April 14 to 17.

Within the framework of the visit, on the afternoon of the same day, General Secretary and President To Lam attended and delivered the opening speech at the Vietnam – China Forum on Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, held at Tsinghua University. The forum is a significant activity contributing to the promotion of substantive cooperation between the two countries in key areas of knowledge and technological development.

Honored to represent Vietnamese higher education institutions at the Forum, Thuyloi University clearly demonstrated its role, position, and prestige within the national higher education system. The University’s delegation included: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet – Rector, along with representatives from various leadership units.

Speaking at the Forum, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that cooperation in education, science, technology, and youth exchange serves as the vital foundation for elevating Vietnam – China relations to new heights. Vietnam always considers developing relations with China an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority in its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification.

The General Secretary and President affirmed that the two countries share many cultural, traditional, and historical similarities; this friendly relationship must continue to be nurtured, especially through the younger generation. Currently, there are approximately 25,000 Vietnamese students studying in China – vivid evidence of the depth of educational cooperation between the two nations. Every student serves as an important bridge contributing to the enhancement of understanding and friendship between the people of both countries.

Notably, at the Forum, Thuyloi University signed 4 Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with prestigious Chinese universities, out of a total of 52 agreements signed at the event. The partners include: Guangxi University (GXU) – the oldest and largest educational institution in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; South China University of Technology (SCUT) – one of the leading universities under Project 985; Hohai University (HHU) – a world-leading university in the fields of water conservancy and water resources; and Capital Normal University (CNU) – a key training institution in Beijing.

The signing of these cooperation agreements not only opens opportunities for academic exchange, scientific research, and high-quality human resource training but also affirms Thuyloi University’s proactive and deep international integration strategy. This is a crucial step toward enhancing the quality of training and research while making practical contributions to the sustainable development of the irrigation sector, water resources, and related fields.

In the context of Vietnam – China relations being propelled to new heights through the consensus and commitment of the top leaders of both Parties and States, the results achieved at the Forum are clear evidence of effective, substantive cooperation, taking the people’s interests as the goal and strategic connectivity as the focus.

The active participation and prominent milestones of Thuyloi University at the Forum continue to affirm its role as one of Vietnam’s key higher education institutions, a pioneer in international integration, contributing to the general development of the country’s education, science, and technology.
